One question comes up in almost every session, no matter how experienced the person in front of my camera is: what do I do with my hands?

This notebook grew out of that question. It isn't a catalog of poses to memorize — it's a way of thinking about the body in motion: how a simple action, an uninterrupted transition, or a shift in weight can produce more natural images than any rehearsed position.

"Natural doesn't mean motionless. Natural means the body seems to have a reason for being where it is."

Inside you'll find the principles I use in my own sessions to direct models with clear instructions, how to work microvariations within a single pose, and why the moment between one pose and the next is often the most photogenic.
